From Sanskrit शाटी (śāṭī), शाटिका (śāṭikā), feminine forms of शाट (śāṭa, garment). Cognate with Nepali साडी (sāḍī), Hindi साड़ी (sāṛī), Gujarati સાડી (sāḍī).
