Etymology[edit]
An alternative form of the rarer শ্বশ্রু (śśosru), from Sanskrit श्वश्रू (śvaśrū), but influence from শ্বশুর (śśośur) has reformed the word into the current state, with the feminine suffix -ই (-i, from Sanskrit -इका (-ikā)) added to denote gender.
