[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀫𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀸𑀭 (majjāra), from Sanskrit मार्जार (mārjāra). Cognate with Old Marathi 𑘦𑘰𑘽𑘕𑘲𑘨 (māṃjīra), Old Hindi मंजार (maṃjāra), Middle Gujarati मंजार, Old Awadhi मंजार (maṃjāra).
