Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀖𑀫𑁆𑀫 (ghamma), from Sanskrit घर्म (gharmá, hot weather, sunshine). Doublet of ઘર્મ (gharma) and ગરમ (garam). Cognate with Romani kham (sun), Konkani घाम (ghām), Marathi घाम (ghām, perspiration).
