Gujarati[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀣𑁄𑀕 (thoga, a little) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit स्तोक (stoká, drop, dot). First attested as Old Gujarati थोव (thova, gradually).[1] Cognate with Hindustani تھوڑا / थोड़ा (thoṛā), Marwari थोड़ो (thoṛo), Marathi थोडे (thoḍe), Punjabi تھوڑا (thoṛā) / ਥੋੜਾ (thoṛā), and Sindhi ٿورو (thoro).
