Inherited from Prakrit 𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀝 (uṭṭa), deaspirated from earlier 𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀞 (uṭṭha), from Sanskrit उष्ट्र (uṣṭra), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *úṣṭras, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *úštras; compare Assamese উট (ut), Bengali উট (uṭ) and Hindi ऊँट (ū̃ṭ). Doublet of ଉଷ୍ଟ (uṣṭô), a tatsama.
