    Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (kaṭṭaï), from Sanskrit कर्त॑ति (kártati, to cut), from कृ॒न्तति॑ (kṛntáti), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kr̥ntáti.

    Cognate with Assamese কাট (kat), Bengali কাটা (kaṭa), and Nepali काट्नु (kāṭnu).
