Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *tuwVr (coral). Cognate with Kannada ತೊಗರು (togaru, scarlet), Tamil துகிர் (tukir, red coral) and Telugu తొగరు (togaru, scarlet) and Malayalam തുകിർ (tukiṟ, red coral).
