From Sanskrit पशु (paśu, cow, cattle) +‎ -వు (-vu); from Proto-Indo-European *peḱu- (livestock, domestic animals). Cognates include Latin pecus (cattle), Old Armenian ասր (asr, fleece), Old English feoh, Old Norse , Gothic 𐍆𐌰𐌹𐌷𐌿 (faihu) and Lithuanian pēkus (cattle).
