From Sanskrit पशु ‎(paśu, cow, cattle) +‎ -వు ‎(-vu); from Proto-Indo-European *peḱu- ‎(livestock, domestic animals). Cognates include Latin pecus ‎(cattle), Old Armenian ասր ‎(asr, fleece), Old English feoh, Old Norse , Gothic 𐍆𐌰𐌹𐌷𐌿 ‎(faihu) and Lithuanian pēkus ‎(cattle).
