From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *m/ʔ-gyaŋ¹/³ (STEDT), though STEDT appears to not assign any cognates. Luce compares Old Chinese (OC *ɡaːŋ, *ɡaːŋs, *ɡraːŋ, *ɡraːŋs, “to walk; to act”).[1]
