Etymology

Inherited from Old Burmese ပိယ်ဟ် (piyh), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-bəj-n/k (to give) or Proto-Sino-Tibetan *pîʔ (to give). Cognate with Tibetan སྦྱིན (sbyin, to give, to bestow) and Old Chinese (OC *pids, “to give”) (STEDT).
