From Proto-Karen *swɨnᴮ (“liver”), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-sin (“liver; bitter; bile”). Cognate with S'gaw Karen သူၣ် (thoò), Western Kayah ꤞꤣ꤭ (thōe).
