From ოხორი (oxori, house) +‎ სქირი (skiri, son), literally son of house. For other compound nouns made with ოხორი (oxori), declaring "kinship and social status", compare ოხორჯა (oxorca), ოხრასურე (oxrasure) and ოხოჭკურა (oxoç̌ǩura).
