Etymology[edit]
From წ(ვ)- (ǯ(v)-) + -უფ (-up) + -ს (-s). Inherited from Proto-Georgian-Zan *c̣ow- (“to suck”). Cognate with Georgian წოვა (c̣ova) and Mingrelian წუალა (c̣uala).
