Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian ჴიდი (ẖidi), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *qid-, probably from Proto-Kartvelian *qid- (bridge). Cognate with Mingrelian ხინჯი (xinǰi) and Laz ხინჯი (xinǰi). See Old Georgian for more.
