Etymology[edit]

As Arabic أَرْز (ʔarz, cedar) borrowed from Aramaic אַרְזָא / ܐܪܙܐ (ʾarzā, cedar). It being a tree by far not native to Ethiopia, the word may as well have been understood as any tall tree.
