[edit]From Proto-Southwestern Tai *vanᴬ (“tooth”), from Proto-Tai *wanᴬ. Cognate with Thai ฟัน (fan), Ahom 𑜇𑜝𑜃𑜫 (phlan), Zhuang faenz, Bouyei fanz. Within Kra-Dai, compare Sui vyanl, wyanl (“tooth”), Southern Kam bienl, biaenl (“tooth”).
