Borrowed from Old Javanese *ḍĕmĕn (compare Old Javanese aḍĕmĕn (“to like, to be pleased with”), Javanese ꦢꦩꦤ꧀ (daman, “precious”)), Old Javanese dama (“strong attachment, affection, loving care”).
