Present active participle of the unattested verb *ἀμεθῠστῐ́ζω (*amethustízō, to be or become an amethyst or amethyst-colored), from ἀμέθῠστος (améthustos, remedy for drunkenness; amethyst) +‎ -ίζω (-ízō), from μεθυστής (methustḗs, drunken), from μέθῠ (méthu, wine).
