Ancient Greek

Etymology

From ἔνοσις (énosis, shaking, quake) +‎ γαῖα (gaîa, earth); the double νν serves to make the first syllable heavy, as the oldest form was *ἐνϝοσίγαιος (*enwosígaios) with the first syllable closed.

Compare Mycenaean Greek 𐀁𐀚𐀯𐀅𐀃𐀚 (e-ne-si-da-o-ne).
