Etymology[edit]

Formation like θῶμιγξ (thôminx) and ὄστλιγξ (óstlinx). The word is either directly from είλέω (eíléō, to turn, wind) or via an unknown noun. On account of the suffix, one could separate the word from εἰλέω (eiléō) as Pre-Greek.
