ⲛⲓ- (ni-, plural definite article) +‎ ⲣⲁⲛ (ran, name, noun). Heuser suggest it to be an abbreviation of another name, most likely ⲡⲁⲛⲓⲣⲁⲛ (paniran), "the one of the names".
