Learned borrowing from the Tuareg Tifinagh letter ⴹ (ḍ, d), from the Libyco-Berber letter (ẓ), a variant of (ẓ), itself from the letter (š), ultimately from the Phoenician letter 𐤔 (š, “shin”). Possibly a doublet of ⵛ (c).
