オーケストラ (ōkesutora): the Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Etymology[edit]

Borrowing from English orchestra.[1][2][3]

Listed in some dictionaries[4] as a borrowing from Greek ορχήστρα (orchístra). However, given the stress differences and the different pronunciation of the /r/, an English source is much more probable.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (Tokyo) ーケトラ [òókéꜜsùtòrà] (Nakadaka - [3])[1]
  • IPA(key): [o̞ːke̞sɨ̥ᵝto̞ɾ̠a̠]

Noun[edit]

オーケストラ (rōmaji ōkesutora)

  1. (music) orchestra
