Etymology

[edit]

Attested from the 2010s.[1] Likely from English chatbot, which is attested from the 1990s.[2] Alternatively, some sources suggest compounding in Japanese from チャット (chatto, online communication) + ボット (botto, robot; automated computer program).[1]
