Borrowed from Classical Persian ريشمى (rēšmī, rīšmī), from ابریشمی (abrīšamī). Synchronically derivable from ꠞꠦꠡꠝ (reśomo, silk) + -ꠁ (-i). Compare Bengali রেশমি (reśmi), Assamese ৰেছমী (resomi), Hindustani ریشمی / रेशमी (reśmī).
