From Proto-Karen *thɔʔᴰ (pig), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *pʷak (pig). Cognate with Pa'o Karen [Term?], Eastern Pwo ထေဝ်, Western Pwo ထိၭ, S'gaw Karen ထိး (hṭoḧ).
