[edit]First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean ᄀᆞᄅᆞᄫᅵ〮 (Yale: kòlòWí), from ᄀᆞᄅᆞ (kolo, “powder”) + 비 (pi, “rain”).
