Etymology[edit]
From 강남(江南) (Gangnam, “Gangnam”) + 좌파(左派) (jwapa, “left-wing”), literally "Gangnam leftist". It is a reference to Gangnam, an affluent district in Seoul.

- Phonetic hangul: [강남 좌(ː)파]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
