Etymology[edit]

Of native Korean origin. Although generally listed as being used in the Hwanghae dialect, it is also used on Gyodong Island in Ganghwa county.[1]

  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)/(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
