Etymology[edit]

Of native Korean origin. Attested in the 18th century as 곳어름 (goseoreum) and 고도롬 (godorom). Equivalent to modern (got-, to be hard) +‎ (eol-, to freeze) +‎ (-eum, nominalisation suffix).
