Etymology[edit]
First attested in the Gugeupbang eonhae (救急方諺解 / 구급방언해), 1466, as Middle Korean 고솜〮돝 (Yale: kwòswómtwòth). Compound of 고솜〮+Middle Korean 돝 (twòth, “pig, swine”)+prefix -ㅣ. The origin of the first part could be related with 가시 (gasi).
