Etymology[edit]

From 구레 (gure, “flank”) + 나룻 (narut, “whiskers”). First attested in the Yeokhae yuhae (역해유해), 1690, as 구레나롯 (Yale: kwuleynalwos).. 날옷 (nalwos) is an archaic form of 나룻.
