Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Analysable as (nun, snow) +‎ *보라 (*bora), with the second element sometimes compared with Mongolian бороо (boroo, rain), Manchu ᠪᡠᡵᠠᠨ (buran, snow storm) or Azerbaijani boran (blizzard).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈnu(ː)nbo̞ɾa̠]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
