First attested as Early Modern Korean ᄇᆡᆨ댱 (poyktyang) in the Yeogeo Yuhae. A variant of Early Modern Korean ᄇᆡᆨ뎡(白丁) (poyktyeng) apparently motivated by vowel harmony.
