From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háyti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁éyti. Cognate with Sanskrit एति (éti, goes), Mycenaean Greek 𐀂𐀍𐀳 (i-jo-te), Latin eo (I go), Luwian 𒄿𒄿 (iti, goes), Hittite 𒄿𒄿𒀀𒀜𒋫 (i-ya-at-ta /iyatta/, goes), Old Church Slavonic ити (iti).
