Etymology[edit]
Literally "wearing hats which look like shields",[1] compound of *taka- (โshieldโ) + *bara- (โbearing, carrying, esteemingโ) probably a reference to the kausia hat typically worn by the ancient Macedonians.
Compare with Old Median *sparabara- (โshield-bearerโ), composed of *spara- (โshieldโ) + *bara- (โbearing, carrying, esteemingโ).
