From earlier [script needed] (*ha-k(a)r), from Proto-Indo-European *smฬฅ-krฬฅt (โone timeโ). The first component of a compound is zero-grade of *sแธm, with cognates such as Latin sem-per (โevery time, alwaysโ) and sem-el (โonceโ), Ancient Greek ฮตแผทฯ (heรฎs, โoneโ) and Sanskrit เคธเคเฅเคคเฅ (sa-kแนฬt, โonce, at onceโ).
