[edit]Borrowed from Middle Persian [script needed] (Vahušīr), from Old Persian *Vahuxšaθrah, equivalent to *vahuš (“good”) + *xšaθram (“reign, kingdom”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬬𐬊𐬵𐬎𐬑𐬱𐬀𐬚𐬭𐬀 (vohuxšaθra).[1][2]
