From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyáštā (worshipper), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁yaǵ-tōr ~ *h₁iǵ-tr-és (one who worships, worshipper); from the root *h₁yaǵ- (to worship). Cognate with Sanskrit यष्टृ (yáṣṭṛ, worshipper).
