From Proto-Iranian *(W)ŕ̥šakah, from *(w)ŕ̥šā (man, hero) +‎ *-kah (hypocoristic suffix). Cognate with Old Persian 𐎠𐎼𐏁𐎣 (R̥šakaʰ).[1][2]
