Etymology[edit]

A compound of 𐭠𐭥𐭲 (ard, truth, order) +‎ 𐭥𐭧𐭱𐭲𐭩 (wahišt, heaven), corresponding roughly to ‘the heavenly order’. The first element is from Old Persian 𐎠𐎼𐎫 (arta, truth), while the second element is another compound from Avestan. See 𐭥𐭧𐭱𐭲𐭩 (wahišt).
