From Old Persian 𐎼𐎢𐎨 (raučah-, “day”), from Proto-Iranian *ráwčati (compare Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬊𐬗𐬀𐬵 (raočah, “light, day”)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian [Term?] (compare Sanskrit रोचते (rocate, “to shine, to be bright”)), from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (“bright, to shine, to see”) (compare English light).
