[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yagï (“enemy, war”). Cognate with Chuvash ҫу (śu, “heathen”), Karakhanid يَغٖى (yaɣï̄, “enemy”), Ottoman Turkish یاغی (yağı, “stranger, enemy”), Kazakh жау (jau, “enemy”), Khakas чаа (çaa, “war”). Compare also Mongolian дайн (dajn, “war”), Evenki догор (dogor, “friend”), Korean 되 (doe).
