Etymology

[edit]

Isolated words in -έρα, like διφθέρα (diphthéra), ἀσκέρα (askéra), χολέρα (kholéra) and κυσέρη (kusérē), are likely to be loans. Theoretically, from Proto-Indo-European *krey- (to sieve), the same root of κρίνω (krínō, to sieve).
