Originated in the mid-1980s as a slang term combining the English words “body conscious”

- A style and fashion subculture emphasising sexiness, decadence, nightlife, and female self-assertion widespread amongst young Japanese women during the Japanese Bubble Economy from the mid-1980s to the early-1990s. The predecessor of the ギャル (Gyaru) subculture.
