Perhaps an early alternant of -вар (-var), from Lua error in Module:links at line 217: The specified language Proto-Mongolic is unattested, while the given term does not begin with '*' to indicate that it is reconstructed..

Or alternatively from the -рь (-rʹ) suffix, extended with an unidentified formant.
