Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *-tás, from Proto-Indo-European *-tós.
Pronunciation
[edit]Suffix
[edit]-त • (-tá)
- -ed (forms adjectives from roots)
Usage notes
[edit]Phonologically, the -इ- (-i-) appears from an Indo-European root-final laryngeal, i.e. for seṭ roots. Especially in later Sanskrit, -इत (-ita) is merely used as an alternative form of -त (-ta).
