Inherited from Early Assamese -হন্ত (-honto, enclitic suffix indicating connection), from -সন্ত (-sonto), from Sanskrit সন্তি (santi, are (3rd person plural)).

  1. plural suffix indicates members of a trade, caste or group.
    ছাতৰহঁত মাতা
    satorhõtok mata.
    Call the students.
    (literally, “Call those who are students.”)
    কাইলৈ মাহঁত আহিব
    kailoi mahõt ahibo.
    Tomorrow mother and others (/and her group) will come.
  2. plural suffix for personal pronouns.
    সি-হঁতxi-hõtthey (he-PL)
