Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀫𑀁𑀢 (maṃta) and 𑀫𑀁𑀢𑁂𑀇 (maṃtei, speaks), from Sanskrit মন্ত্ৰ (mántra) and মন্ত্ৰযতে (mantráyate, speaks). Cognate with Sylheti ꠝꠣꠔ (mat), ꠝꠣꠔꠣ (mata), Chakma 𑄟𑄖𑄴 (mat), Kalasha mondr (language).
